Vondrousova def. Osaka 6-1 6-4

Holy moly, Naomi Osaka was just knocked out of the Olympics in the 3rd round by Marketa Vondrousova. This was the first time we've seen Naomi play since she withdrew from the French Open a few months ago, which started a whole shit storm of controversy. The rust was certainly there with 32 unforced errors in less than an hour of play. I mean the under in the match still hit, just not in the way you'd expect it to.

After a dreadful first set where she was spraying the ball all over the place Osaka did break to start the 2nd set and went up an early 2-0. I figured she would have feet under her then and cruise to a victory. Nope, instead she lost three straight games and the momentum in the match. Ugly. Not too long after, Vondrousova had won the match, but in reality Osaka just handed it to her.

Listen you don't play for two months you're gonna look like shit. Osaka had virtually no rhythm all match and was constantly found off balance by the Vondrousova drop shot. Did I expect her to win gold? No, match fitness is a big factor here, but I certainly didn't expect her to lose as a -700 favorite this early. That's a true stunner along with the world number 1 Ash Barty also being upset this early in the event. The gold is completely up for grabs.

P.S. We may have found the culprit…
