Group Of Portland State Students Storm Out Of Diversity Panel After Biologist Calls Men And Women Different
It’s Wednesday. We are almost on the back nine of the work week. I don’t want to throw a wrench in your potential great week, but I believe you need to see this video. It will make you mad, but again, I feel that you need to see it. View it as the purest form of comedy there is.
Let me set the scene. Portland State University in Oregon, February 17th, 2018 (the video was released this week, hence why I am blogging it now). PSU philosophy professor Peter Boghossian hosted a panel titled “We Need To Talk About Diversity.” Guests included Evergreen State biologist Heather E. Heying, writer Helen Pluckrose (self-proclaimed liberal and ex-feminist), and ex-Google engineer James DaMore (yes, the guy that got fired in 2017 for discussing the lack of women in the engineering world). Boghossian started off the panel by asking about “social constructivism” and then all hell broke loose (segment begins at 18:08):
Pluckrose, the first woman speaking, makes a well thought out and respectful answer to Boghossian’s question. You can disagree, but the point of the panel was to bring on differently styled thinkers. I’m sure there were people in the crowd who disagreed, but as you noticed, they didn’t get up, storm out, and cause a ruckus. The same can’t be said for when Heying started to talk. You really couldn’t have written the reaction to Heying, a biologist, any better for a movie entitled “Watch Out For The Girl With Blue Hair.” As Heying said “Let’s look at differences between men and women that are explicitly anatomical and physiological; are men taller than women on average? Does anyone take offense at that fact?” this fine, respectful young woman got up and shouted “byeeeeee!”
This young lady (I think) seemed really pumped up and proud of herself for leaving. She and her friend walk away with smiles on their faces like kids in a candy store:
Heying, unphased, continues on with her answer. It’s these students right to leave the talk when they want. Yelling “byeeeee!” is inappropriate but not that big of a deal. This must be the end of it, right? NOPE! As these fine folks left the diversity talk decided to destroy the sound system. Rational thing to do when a biologist brings up scientific facts. Who would’ve known science was so triggering!
The video then cuts to another one of the protestors (surprise! she has purple hair!) being escorted out who then screams “even the women in there have been brainwashed!”
This is when I started laughing. You can’t be mad at someone this dumb. I’ve never heard someone who is brainwashed call someone else brainwashed. You kind of have to respect it. She’s controlling the story.
The sad thing is this is not even her fault. She went into this bubble that is liberal arts colleges and came out thinking that the only thing that matters is her opinion, not things like science, which you know are facts.
This kid then gets some camera time and says “Nazi’s are not welcomed in civil societies:”
I think we can all agree on that point. Nobody likes Nazis except for other Nazis. I just hope he isn’t comparing an ex-Google engineer, philosophy teacher and a biologist to a group of people who killed millions of innocent people. Because that would be insane and there’s no way this guy has any irrational thoughts.
To cap it all off, we got the girl with the purple hair turning her attention to the police which escorted her out. In a lame tribute to NWA, she shouted “fuck the police” and threw up her fist in the air (cultural appropriation! be careful!) as she said, “power to the people.” Don’t know what the hell that has to do with the difference between men and women, but okay.
Her friends followed her out like any followers would follow out a great leader.
I imagine this is what it looked like when the Greek followed Alexander the Great into battle. A group that rallies around sort of like the English did when Churchill spoke.
As I said earlier, you couldn’t have scripted this any better. I mean look at the outift:
If you’ve been to a liberal arts college you’ve had a class with every one of these kids. They thought they were the smartest kids in the room and loved showing up to class every day with their Apple iPhones and Starbucks coffee ready to talk about how broken capitalism is. Surprising to no one, they idolize the likes of Fidel Castro. He may have murdered countless gay people and those who merely disagreed with him politically, but that free healthcare though!!!!! Can’t beat that!!!! Got to crack a few eggs to make an omelette!
To think this whole thing started over a biologist discussing the physiological differences in men and women. If we can’t agree that men have, on average, more muscle mass and are taller than women, what can we agree on?
