GFM – Anthony is a victim of the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. During this unspeakable tragedy, Anthony was able to save about 20 other students as he attempted to close and lock the door to a classroom. He was shot multiple times (both legs were shot, left upper thigh bone shattered and one bullet went through his back). He has a long road of recovery ahead of him but he is alive and stable.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Anthony and his family. Any help is very much appreciated.
To reiterate what I said in my initial blog about the Stoneman High shooting:
What I do like to do after something like this is highlight the heroes. Every single one of them. All of the people who stepped up in the face of crippling, unbelievable fear and danger in order to protect others. People like Coach Feis, who literally used himself as a human shield to protect students. A guy who saw a maniac pointing a gun at high school kids and put his own body in front of that gun instead of following every single basic hardwired human instinct to dive out of the way. Aaron Feis is the name people should remember from this, along with many others just like him that will come out in the next few days. Not the piece of garbage who carried out the attack. Aaron Feis.
The latest story is the one of Anthony Borges, whose story has come out after that incredibly powerful picture went viral on Facebook.
Borges’ best friend, Carlos Rodriguez told ABC News, that it was Borges’ quick-thinking actions that saved his life.
“None of us knew what to do. So, he took the initiative to just save his other classmates,” Rodriguez said.
In a Facebook post that’s gone viral, Broward Sheriff Scott Israel is pictured with Borges in the hospital and said to be honored by the visit, as Borges lays showered in gifts and balloons.
“Fortunately, he is recovering —but has a long road ahead with more surgeries needed,” read the Facebook post. “Please join us in praying for the swift recovery of Anthony and all the other victims of this horrific criminal act.” [ABC]
Crazy that a 15 year old kid can turn out to be a bigger man than most of us could ever be.
You can donate to Borges to help with his long road to recovery if you have any extra money to spare.
