Breakdown of NFL Top 100 By Power 5 Conferences

IMG_2954
Out of the top 100 players in the NFL as voted on by their colleagues, 81 either came from the SEC, ACC, B1G, Big 12, or Pac 12. Now, that may not come as a surprise, because this group is called the, “Power Five Conferences,” but some conferences held the jockstrap of others. (per usual) Here is the breakdown:
Southeastern Conference- 23
Big Ten Conference- 19
Pac-12 Conference- 15
Atlantic Coast Conference- 13
Big 12 Conference- 11
Look at the SEC, on top like we are supposed to be. Don’t come at me saying, “Ohhhh Clemson beat Alabama and FSU beat Auburn.” Since 2006, three of the past 11 champions weren’t SEC. The ACC teams that won, won by a combined seven points. At least Ohio State whooped Oregon and sent the Pac-12 back west.
It really only makes sense that the SEC and B1G are atop of this list because they are the most dominant conferences. Between the two, you have 42% of this list, and between just Alabama and Georgia, you have 10% of the list…Of the top 10 players in the league, six of the 10 went to either B1G of SEC schools, downright ridiculous. It just goes to show you that no matter what, playing against the best will make you the best.
My only negative about this list (and its pretty big) is that it is a screwy list. J.J Watt was ranked 35 and played three games. The NFL MVP Matt Ryan was 10 and Aaron Rodgers was six, even though Ryan lead his team to a better record and beat Rodgers team twice that season. It is just a screwy system so much so that even the players will admit to it.
Also, if you want to dispute the talent by conference, the SEC had 12 first round picks and the B1G had seven accounting for 19/32 players taken in the first round. In the words of Ricky Bobby’s incredible father,
