Will Claude Make It Through The Weekend?

I played my “Fire Claude!” card in December of 2010 and that worked out perfectly.

I generally don’t pay much attention to media folks or fans calling for the coach’s head because it’s nothing new around here with Claude and it’s always been wishful thinking. At least until now maybe.

When Bob McKenzie says there’s “a credible threat” to Claude’s job security, you listen. He makes it clear that this isn’t media or fan driven. The continent’s best hockey reporter also referred to a “palpable disconnect” between team hierarchy “in terms of words and actions” and the league’s longest-tenured coach.

That certainly doesn’t sound like an environment in which Claude is going to be here for the long haul. But, like Bobby Mac said, until something happens, he’s still the coach. And if the Bs somehow rattle off five in a row (bear with me here), then the talk will disappear quicker than a three-goal lead.

The Bs have a rare Friday home game vs. the Blackhawks tonight and have a Sunday matinee in Pittsburgh.  If they don’t manage a point over the weekend, it’s easy to imagine Bruce Cassidy behind the bench when Detroit comes to town Tuesday, particularly in light of McKenzie’s comments. Should they win the pair against league iron, then Claude will be safe for another couple games.

But would a weekend sweep do away with the “palpable disconnect” between coach and “team hierarchy” ? Are they issues that can be cured with winning? Right now, it doesn’t sound much like a situation that a guy can coach himself out of, even if he didn’t construct the roster. Based on Uncle Bob’s report, the writing sure does appear to be on the wall for Claude Julien and his future as the head coach of the Boston Bruins.

Whether they decide to shitcan their bench boss or make a blockbuster trade, the Bruins need to do something, goddamnit. Because this team needs a major jolt of some sort.
