WEST FARGO, N.D. — Neighborhood kids with water guns are credited with saving a homebound West Fargo resident from a fire Tuesday. According to a release from West Fargo Fire Chief Daniel Fuller: Firefighters were called to a deck fire at an apartment unit in the 3400 block of Fifth Street West. While en route, units were notified that the occupant of the apartment was on home oxygen and could not leave the apartment or put out the fire. When firefighters arrived, they found the remains of a planter that had caught fire. The flames had extended into the siding and wood decking adjacent to the planter. The fire was already out, however, and it was later determined that five neighborhood kids saw the fire, alerted the occupant, and then used their water guns to control the blaze before firefighters arrived. Fuller said in a phone interview Tuesday that the boys and girls are all students at Aurora Elementary School in West Fargo. He said three of the kids live in the same apartment complex and two had joined them for a water fight outside the building. They smelled the smoke and found the fire. “They had some Super Soakers, so they had some pretty good range,” Fuller said. “They had to refill a couple of times but they pretty much got the fire out. It was just smoldering when we got there.”

How am I just hearing about this now? It happened on Tuesday and I didn’t see it until early this morning. This should be headline news on every single major news channel. CNN, Fox News, MSNBC, all of them. The news never tells us any good news. They are incapable of giving us good news. Instead, we’ve got some whack job who shot and killed his teacher then himself over bad grades plastered all over the front pages. Fuck that guy and fuck the people who decided to cover that story instead of these 5 kids unleashing their Super Soakers on a house fire and saving an old man’s life. Those are the stories I wanna hear. I don’t wanna turn on the news (I don’t watch so the news so this is a hypothetical) and instantly become depressed. I know that bad news = ratings but give me a nugget of good news every once in awhile. At least trick me into the thinking the world isn’t burning. And if the world is in fact burning, give me the story about kids putting that fire out with Super Soakers. That’s all I ask.

These kids are awesome by the way. They’ll have this story for a lifetime. I can remember playing with Super Soakers and we never did anything close as cool as this. “Hey remember that time we were heroes and saved a guy’s life?” I miss Super Soakers tbh. Running around the neighborhood and almost blinding your best friend with a stream of water. Ahhhhh the good ol’ days. Yet another reason why growing up is the stupidest thing a person can do.

PS- How weird is fire though? Think about it.
