Find someone who can do both. Even though we determined that Madison Bumgarner is low key the biggest hardo in the MLB, there’s no denying that he’s one of the best pitchers in the game, and he proved that yet again by shutting down the second highest run-producing team in the National League. Bumgarner held the Chicago Cubs to just three hits over 7.2 shutout innings, while striking out six batters. The scoreless performance lowered his ERA to 2.17 on the season, which is the sixth best mark in the National League. Bumgarner also drove in the lone run in San Francisco’s 1-0 victory, batting out of the eighth spot in Bruce Bochy’s lineup. That was just the 13th time that Bumgarner has hit higher than ninth in the lineup in his career.
