NGEHTTC: Nothing Good Ever Happens To The Cubs. Cade Horton is done.
The beginning to the Cubs season has been.... interesting to say the very least and then on Friday against the Guardians in Cleveland, legit the worst case scenario happens. The one definite strong spot of this team is our pitching rotation. Steele will be back later this summer, Cabrera has looked impressive, Boyd is still a guy, and Cade Horton. The Ace. Was out there looking great as always and then... He completely blew out his elbow. Literal worst case scenario.
The sad thing was is he knew it as well, as he was walking back to the dugout he was emotional just knowing that his season is most likely over. It's honestly like clockwork for the Cubs, every single year one of our starters has to go down. Last year Justin Steele, this year Cade Horton, it's absolutely brutal. I feel so bad for the guy too especially after the season he had being a Cy young contender.
The Cubs as a whole right now (even though it's early yes I know) just seem so shaky. The offense is incredibly inconsistent but hopefully Seiya Suzuki coming back this week provides a much needed spark there. Our infield defense is absolute lock down filled with gold glovers left and right especially Nico Hoerner. And in the outfield PCA and Happ keep it locked down but once again bringing up Seiya Suzuki, MAN do we need him back in right. Conforto and Shaw have been just abysmal out there, some of the worst outfielder play I've ever seen in a Cubs uniform.
Overall though, I had decently high expectations for this Cubs team going into the year. I was expecting around 95 wins and a fight for the NL Central title but with this shaky start, losing Cade, and the Brewers devil magic going to work, I think a wild card spot is already more expectable. I hope we figure it out and I'm fully overreacting here but we shall see, Go Cubs.
