Erik Spoelstra's "Untrained Eye" Dig At Ramona Shelburne Should Replace "Casual" As The Official "You Don't Know Ball" Insult

I love Erik Spoelstra for giving this to us. Coach Spo is a badass who began training his eye as a video coordinator and eventually rose the ranks to become one of the elite coaches in all of basketball. I'd imagine anyone from outside coaching circles who tries to talk ball with him must make him feel like Will Hunting.

NOW LOOK. You may see that headline and think I'm a raging misogynist, hating on Ramona Shelburne, questioning her legitimacy as a reporter and whatever other worst-case inference you could possibly draw from it all. That's not my opinion whatsoever. Shelburne has been covering the NBA for many years and has done a damn good job. Otherwise, she wouldn't still be in that seat.

You can also tell that Spo had it up to HERE with any sort of questions. His Miami Heat squad was written off once again entering Game 2 of the NBA Finals, and somehow tied that shit up in Denver. Tactical adjustments, acclimation to the altitude, #HEATCulture grit, Duncan Robinson of all people scoring 10 fourth-quarter points...you could cite numerous elements that led to the upset.

Another major factor to the Heat's victory? Nikola Jokic managing only four assists to five turnovers. Yes, he scored 41 points and still played well. No, I can't remember the last time Joker had more giveaways than dimes in a night. Like when? I scrolled the game log trying to find one instance of this. It's often not close.

SO GUESS WHAT, SPO? YOU DID SOMETHING. You just don't wanna say. I get it. It's also true that the Nuggets are 0-3 this postseason when Jokic scores 40+ points. But thank you anyway for delivering "UNTRAINED EYE" as a substitute for "causals" because we needed something new. I'm not even 45% convinced that "untrained eye" will catch on for more than 48 hours. I hope it does. It's so much more demeaning and specific.

At least "casual" can be twisted to imply someone is aloof or has other priorities in life than watching basketball. To slam someone who literally covers the sport for a living as having an "untrained eye" is so rude but so hilarious at the same time. And again, I feel for Shelburne here being on the receiving end of that blow because she wanted to fit in one more question prior to Spo leaving the podium.

When some ignoramus tries to talk shit about the Bengals this season, I'm gonna use "untrained eye" as a frequent clap back. I couldn't stop cringing as Spoelstra kept talking. Seriously some of the best postgame sound I can remember from an NBA coach. During the Finals at that!
