Grumpy Asshole Jim Boeheim Woke Up and Issued The Most PR-Crafted Apology Ever To Wake Forest, Miami, and Pitt After Accusing Them Of Buying Their Teams

Jim Boeheim continued his run as one of the biggest losers in college basketball this weekend. Reags covered it here if you wanna read all of the quotes. Syracuse fans like myself got mad at the entire thing, but the part that irked outsiders was this tidbit about Pittsburgh, Wake Forest, and Miami.

"This is an awful place we're in in college basketball," he said. "Pittsburgh bought a team. OK, fine. My [big donor] talks about it, but he doesn't give anyone any money. Nothing. Not one guy. Our guys make like $20,000. Wake Forest bought a team. Miami bought a team. … It's like, 'Really, this is where we are?' That's really where we are, and it's only going to get worse."

Today Syracuse's PR team crafted up this statement for ol' Jim in an effort to walk back the bullshit that spewed out of his stubborn, arrogant mouth on Saturday.

Imagine one person in the world out there believing Boeheim was actually sorry and apologetic for what he said. Laughable.

Brandin Knight, a current assistant at Rutgers and former player himself, had this to say.

All of it is a mess. Why Boeheim thought attacking other teams for NIL was a good idea is straight up lunacy. Never mind the top 100 recruit our main booster Adam Weitsman brought up a few weeks ago. Surely he's not getting a big NIL deal right Jim? (More of that please Adam)

My question as grumpy Jim continues his complaining is why on Earth is he still doing this? If he hates what college basketball has turned into then why not just ride off into the sunset? Your sons are no longer here, there's literally nothing holding you back. Seems to be pretty reasonable resolution if you ask me. NIL isn't going anywhere, just leave.

Fun fact about me is that I absolutely love college basketball. When I get home from work these days you'll find me watching the 7:00, 9:00, and even the 11:00s. Gambling on college basketball is one of my favorite things to do with how many games are on each night. I grew up loving Syracuse basketball so much that I decided to go there without even visiting the campus first. In hindsight it was such a reckless decision, but going to the Dome and seeing the basketball team play in person was such a great perk that living in the freezing cold seemed worth it. Okay the weather fucking sucked and I barely went to class, but those four years were sick. I saw two Final Four teams and experienced the program reach number one in the country during my sophomore year. It was incredible, but since graduating everything has basically crumbled down to the point we're an embarrassment.

Winning 20+ games and being a top 4 seed in the tournament used to be the standard. Now the new plan is maybe sneak in as a bubble if things break their way? Unless they win the ACC tournament this year we're looking at missing the big dance 4 of the last 5 seasons. The fact that he goes up there and says they still compete with the best teams in the country is a joke. Anyone wanna remind him how the Illinois game went?

The fact that Boeheim goes up there and questions retirement talk and laughs at the idea things are bad is so frustrating. What he doesn't understand is that if he was 50 years old the talk would be firing him rather than retiring. All his age does is conveniently open up an exit plan for both parties. Unfortunately the AD there doesn't have the balls to step and do something about this.

And yes, Boeheim is absolutely the reason Syracuse basketball is a thing. He built the program out of absolutely nothing, but he's more than overstayed his welcome. I understand the hardest part of being a legend in sports is walking away at the right time. Seeing an athlete or coach become a shell of himself is brutal. Well, Jim Boeheim is walking a dangerous path where if this continues a few more years people are gonna remember him more for the "old man yells at clouds" quotes and embarrassing seasons rather than his Big East days. I want to love Syracuse basketball again, but he's making it very hard. For anyone who thinks Jim leaving would ruin the program, how can it get much worse? If you bring in a new face or promote someone like G-Mac and you fully embrace NIL then why can't you get back to where you were? This new era has allowed so many teams to be competitive, but for some reason Syracuse refuses to adapt. I wonder what the problem is…

Please Jim, for the 100th time I'm begging you…go away.
