Not So Fast: We Now Actually Have A Sliver Of Hope For The USMNT #BerhalterOut

Ohhh thank you Earnie Stewart and Taylor Twellman. This is what I needed to see after fearing we'd just blindly sign Berhalter and let him get ready for the 2026 World Cup. Don't get me wrong. I'll be thankful for Berhalter to get some of these guys on the squad, some development and getting to the World Cup. That matters. But the 2 World Cup term coaches don't have any sort of success with the USA. Not to mention Berhalter falls firmly into the average category.

The fact is he's part of the reason we didn't make it past the Round of 16 in this World Cup. Yes, the players need to finish and need to make plays but Berhalter's decision making can be questioned. You can look at who he brought for the 9 position as a reason why. You can look at why it took him 3.5 matches and down 2 goals to finally use our best goal scoring lineup.

Chief laid out the way Berhalter got the job here:

I remember when he was hired and people weren't happy. You can't bring him back for the 2026 World Cup. Not with this roster. Not when there's a chance the USMNT can have a great World Cup. Again, thanks for this year and setting us up for 2026. But we need someone who can get us past the Round of 16. I'm not going to sit here and scream it's Pep, I don't know who the actual answer is. That's why we have people in place who should (key word that needs to be stressed) know who that is and make the right decision.

There's also no need to rush to re-sign Berhalter. This is the next big event for us:

That's an event with Argentina, Brazil, South America, etc. We're not stuck just playing El Salvador or Honduras or teams like that. A good showing there and we're set up even more for 2026. So thanks Gregg, but it's time to move on.
