Michael Jordan Has Made $7 Million in Two Weeks Thanks to Lionel Messi

Lionel Messi's signing with PSG broke virtually every record you could imagine. The team gained more Instagram followers in one day than any NFL team has total. It reportedly sold more than 800,000 jerseys in the first 24 hours. Everyone went insane.

But it's those jersey sales that were of particular interest to a fellow GOAT. Paris Saint-Germain is sponsored by Jordan Brand, with Jordan receiving a five percent cut of PSG merchandise sales for having its logo on the shirts. And in less than two weeks since Messi joined the club, PSG has sold about $140 million in his jerseys alone.

So Messi's transfer to Paris has netted MJ $7 million in two weeks. Kings really do stay kings.

When Messi went to PSG, Twitter went wild comparing him to Jordan and whose brand was bigger. My boss and podcast co-host Coley couldn't have summed it up better at the time, and his observation rings even more relevant in light of this news.

Getting five cents of every dollar made when the biggest soccer player in the world comes to one of your clubs has to be the greatest form of passive income known to man. I'd just sit at the computer and watch a rolling total of the shirt sales keep going up for hours at a time.

LeBron will never have his own logo worn by the best soccer player in the world. Our GOATs are not the same.
