The Braves' Best Pitcher Has a Broken Hand Because He Punched the Dugout Bench After His Last Start

Following a loss to the Brewers on Sunday in which Huascar Ynoa had his worst start of the season, giving up 5 ER in 4.1 IP, the Braves announced Monday that Ynoa was going on the injured list with a broken hand. Despite the bad start, Ynoa has still been having an All-Star-caliber season, with a 3.02 ERA in his eight starts.

And the injury was certainly a shock to seemingly everyone, since nobody saw anything happen to Ynoa during the game. Well, it turns out the injury stems from Ynoa coming into the dugout and punching a bench.

So now a team with serious pitching deficiencies already has lost its best starter this season to a completely avoidable injury. Things continue to go from bad to worse. The 2021 Atlanta Braves are the MLB proof of Murphy's Law.

In his four previous starts before Sunday, Ynoa won all four and gave up just 3 ER in 24.1 IP — good for a 1.11 ERA. He was due for a clunker at some point, but now it has cost the Braves much more than just one game.

This sucks so much. We are quickly careening towards a Mets-like season, both in terms of record and ridiculous injuries leading to our demise. I really just want the pain to stop.

At least we'll always have Huascar's grand slam.
