Nothing But Respect For This State Senator Who Changed His Zoom Background To His Home Office While Taking The Meeting While Driving...To Debate A Bill About Distracted Driving
I fucking love this guy:
GMDO - Andrew Brenner, a state senator in Ohio, is getting some heat for driving while participating in a Zoom call earlier this week. The Ohio Senate is currently taking up a bill that would create additional penalties for distracted driving and a local newspaper, the Columbus Dispatch, pointed out the irony of the situation.
But local media aren’t discussing perhaps the funniest aspect of this whole minor scandal: Brenner turned on a virtual background to make it appear like he was at home in his office. And he failed miserably.
Monday’s meeting of the Ohio Controlling Board was just 13 minutes long, but those were apparently precious minutes that Brenner couldn’t waste. Brenner turned his camera on and off repeatedly in an apparent effort to disguise where he was actually calling from.
Look, time is money and when you're a (state) senator, you need to make every second count. You cannot expect Andrew Brenner, a (state) senator from Ohio, to sit at home and take a meeting- guy has places to go, people to see, fundraisers to attend, babies to shake. It's just unfortunate for him this particular meeting was about safe driving, but he still did his best. I'm just saying, how do we know FOR SURE that he was in a car and driving? Just because he has a seatbelt on and keeps checking his mirrors? Because as far as I can tell, he is safely in his home office, discussing the merits of this new bill.
But the haters are going to hate, so they confronted him and asked him about his Zoom driving:
When confronted with questions about the bizarre situation, Brenner told the Dispatch that it was no big deal.
“I wasn’t distracted. I was paying attention to the driving and listening to it,” Brenner said to the Dispatch. “I had two meetings that were back to back that were in separate locations. And I’ve actually been on other calls, numerous calls, while driving.”
See! He wasn't distracted at all!
The fact of the matter is nobody respects Zoom meetings anymore. We are already over it. To the point people want to have in person meetings again just to change it up. We, humans, are never happy. We all hated commuting to the office and sitting in meetings until we were stuck at home and now we want to go back to the old way of doing things. It always comes full circle.
