Reds #2 Prospect Hunter Greene Threw 37 Pitches Over 100 MPH In His First AA Start Of The Season
Pardon me? 37 pitchers over 100 MPH in Hunter Greene's first AA start of the season for the Chattanooga Lookouts? How is that possible? They said it was the most pitches over 100 in the MILB and MLB since statcast began tracking it in 2015, 14 coming in the first inning. You think he was excited? My elbow started barking just reading the tweet. It was his first straw since July 2018 and the fact that he was able to go out and let the big dog eat is awesome news for Greene. Now there's a rumor that he has reached 105 before and I don't even know if that is possible. Like I think your ligaments and tendons start to break apart at 105, but who knows, the kid is a freak. Earlier in Spring Training he hit 103 which isn't too bad, but 37 of the 43 fastballs he threw going over 100 is insane. Not like he was wild either, he struck out 8 Trash Pandas in 5 innings, walked none, gave up 3 hits and 1 run.
Very solid and impressive outing by Greene. I'm hoping he can stay healthy for the future and we see this guy in the bigs for the Reds soon. He was very hyped up coming into the draft and I need to see this kid because the potential is there, he is a special player. The fact that his arm didn't automatically fall off after he left the mound tells you how special he is. Former 2 way player who ditched hitting to focus on pitching and now you see why. May have to tune into his next start to see if he can hit 100 40 times in one game. That's video game stuff.
Look how silky smooth he is too, going to be a guy to keep your eye on for a long, long time.
