How Did Tyler Herro Become The Most Untouchable Player In The NBA?

If anybody knows about overvaluing the players on their favorite team, it's yours truly. It's what I do for a living essentially. Even with that said, what is going on with Tyler Herro is breaking my brain. Yes, he's a really good young prospect who single-handedly cost my favorite team a spot in the Finals last year. This one performance still haunts me to this day

But it seems like from that moment on, Tyler Herro has become untouchable. The Heat didn't want to give him up for James Harden. Now as we approach the trade deadline tomorrow, we're seeing stuff like this

Now I get it, Lowry is a little long in the tooth, but he would certainly make the Heat better. Especially with a wide open title race. It's also true that maybe Herro is coming back down to earth a little bit from what we saw in the bubble

The talk about him heading into the season was that he could flirt with being an All Star, that didn't exactly happen. As we all know, if you want to get something good you have to give something good. If the Heat want to bring in All Star caliber talent, they are going to have to give up a good prospect. That's the reality. I also understand this stance from the Heat probably more than anyone else. The GM of my favorite team would rather die than give up any young prospect with promise in a trade that might help the team now.

But are we sure what Herro even is? Is he the guy that dropped 37 points in that one game and had a nice bubble run, or is he the player we are seeing this season? If it's the latter, why is he the roadblock that could be preventing the Heat from getting back to the Finals or maybe even winning the whole damn thing?

I just can't remember someone who is basically a role player at the moment being such a sticking point. Especially for someone as aggressive as Pat Riley. Could Herro develop into a star? Sure, maybe. But that's the risk you take when you can bring in players that can help you get over the hump in the now. Given what Harden looks like in BKN, do you think the Heat regret that decision?

Shouldn't the goal be to maximize this Jimmy Butler window? He's not exactly getting any younger.

I'd love to know where Heat fans now stand on this and if anything has changed in their thinking from the bubble until now. Are you OK with potentially not getting the most out of the Bam/Butler core by holding onto a guy like Herro? Or has this season changed your outlook. It sure sounds like Pat Riley would rather roll the dice, but is that the right move?
