So next month, on April 24th, we've got:
-Kamaru Usman vs Jorge Masvidal II for the Welterweight Championship
-Valentina Shevchenko vs Jessica Andrade for te Flyweight Championship
-Weili Zhang vs Rose Namajunas for the Strawweight Championship
....AND a packed house in attendance to witness it all, and bring that sold-out crowd energy back into combat sports. Incredible.
I know the first thing a lot of people are gonna say is, "Woah, is this safe?! Seems risky to pack an arena," and while I agree - I don't have an answer to that. I don't know if it's safe or not. I don't even know what sorta protocols will be in place.
I just know that the UFC has been doing EVERYTHING safely for about a year now (and impressed me at every turn with their COVID safety protocols on Fight Island), so I'm givin them the benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise…..and I'm also selfishly excited to hear the roar of a crowd again.
Another aspect about this event that people are already causing a stir about is Jorge Masvidal getting another title shot after losing to Usman on short notice last Summer and not fighting since - but as a Masvidal fan in the clicks business, you won't hear me complainin!
I'm down to see what Jorge has got for Usman on a full camp, and not six days notice, and plus - that's who the champ wanted!
I'm not saying you should always give the champ what the demand, but I betcha this build is gonna be fucking GREAT because there's some real heat there! I'm all for it.
Shevchenko/Andrade and Zhang/Namajunas are a couple of absolute BANGERS to serve as the prelude to this main event, as well - just a buncha violent ass women who always come to fight right there - so I truly can't wait. This could shape up to be the card of the year.
