Taking A Look At Everything That Was Bad During Last Night's Game (Hint: It Was Everything)

redskins-facepalm

Last night was really bad all around. The Redskins did nothing right. Anywhere. Here are some of those things:

Defense:

Some of the worst defense I’ve ever seen. They got pressure on Eli twice all game, once on the first play of the game, and the a Kerrigan sack at the end of the first half. They were stone walled. No pressure whatsoever all game. Orakpo was defeated.

And the secondary was TERRIBLE. After the first drive you knew it was going to be one of those nights. Nobody could cover anyone. Meriweather in coverage is the worst safety coverage I’ve ever seen. Downright embarrassing.

The worst play of the game came at the end of the first half after Kerrigan sacked Eli and took them out of field goal range. Perfect, go into the half down 21-7 and getting the ball back. NOT SO FAST! Let’s look at the Redskins defense with 7 seconds on the clock and the Giants with no time outs:

Holy Christ on a cracker! Pathetic. Jim Haslett, who is one of the only coaches retained from last year, is a god awful d-coordinator. Quick reminder of his previous teams:

2006 Rams – 28th points / 23rd yards
2007 Rams – 31st points / 21st yards
2008 Rams – 31st points / 28nd yards

2010 Redskins – 21st points / 31st yards
2011 Redskins – 21st points / 13th yards
2012 Redskins – 22nd points / 28th yards
2013 Redskins – 30th points / 18th yards

He doesn’t make adjustments, can’t figure out how to get his guys to play better, nothing. They have Hatcher, Orakpo, and Kerrigan and can’t even get a sniff of an opposing QB. Downright pathetic.

Offense:

Terrible. Cousins looked like a backup QB. Threw behind every WR. Had no rhythm. Almost as if now that team’s have tape on him, the job won’t be as easy.

I pretty much did the best blog possible about the QB situation last night, so I’ll just copy and past that because I have nothing more to add:

I don’t even know what to say about the QB situation. I took a beating when I stuck with RG3. Had people screaming at me from every which way that Kirk is the better QB. I wanted to wait to see how he played. And then I saw him play weeks 2 and 3 and he was very impressive. So I bought into the Kirk hype. I got onboard the Kirktrain. And then tonight he imploded. Looked exactly how I remembered him from last season. Looked exactly why he was a backup and not a starter. It all sucks. I wanted him to be good so badly. I wanted to end this stupid QB situation in DC, and I stopped caring if it was RG3 or Cousins- just someone play fucking well for once. And now…we’re back at the beginning. Have an injury-prone RG3 and a INT throwing, hard to even watch QB Kirk Cousins.

Keep in mind Cousins threw 3 picks in the 3rd quarter last night, RG3 has never throw 3 picks in a game.

Some other quick terrible things: We are the only team in the league that doesn’t have a kicker who can kick touchback on kickoffs. Andre Roberts is the best punt returner the Skins have had in years and he calls for fair catches when nobody is within 20 yards of him. Tyler Polumbus can’t block. Which is important when you’re an offensive lineman. But he never learned that skill. Trent Williams got hurt, which is terrible news. The crowd sounded like 50% Giants fans, because of course. Redskins play Seattle and then Arizona, because of course. I’m sure I’m missing some awful things from last night. Oh yea, Skins getting two penalties on Giants PATs. That’s always good. All in all, a terrible game and one I’d like to soon forget.
