Checking On The Lions: Michigan Legislators Are Sending Them Letters Thanking Them For Firing Bob Quinn And Matt Patricia While Telling Them Who To Hire

[Source] - A group of Michigan state legislators have sent a letter to Detroit Lions owner Sheila Ford Hamp urging her to hire San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh as the team's next head coach.

The letter, authored by Rep. Abdullah Hammoud and his staff, also thanked Hamp for making the decision to fire general manager Bob Quinn and coach Matt Patricia on Saturday after two-plus seasons, saying those moves were necessary to move forward.

I'm sorry, but, uh, what in the living hell is going on out here? We have state legislators not only thanking the Lions for firing Bob Quinn and Matt Patricia, but begging them to hire Robert Saleh. This is insane, right? I can't remember any legislators actually doing this seriously. But then again, it's the Lions. I want to be surprised, but this is a franchise that had Barry Sanders and Calvin Johnson just completely quit early because the franchise sucked. Nothing can surprise me when it comes to the Lions anymore. It's the Lions!

Everyone knows the Lions should hire Saleh. He's from Michigan. He played at Northern Michigan and coached at Michigan State and Central Michigan. He's well-regarded throughout the NFL. He's one of the best coordinators out there, so much so that even Richard Sherman is saying the Lions should hire him.

But I'm starting to think these state legislators are so nervous the Lions will fuck it up and hire someone that makes zero sense this is required. I'm a little shocked they didn't try to sign in a law that they HAD to hire Saleh. That's actually the crazy thing with the Lions. It's not like they haven't had talent outside of Johnson/Sanders. They've always looked good on paper. I'm convinced every year 75% of NFL fans go yep this is the year the Lions make the playoffs and surprise someone. Then they go 5-11 and all hell breaks loose.

Yes, Saleh should get the job but now I'm cheering for the Lions to hire someone else. Strictly for the fallout. Give us the comedy.
