Today In 2020 College Basketball: Stanford Might Just Stay In North Carolina To Play Games Because Of COVID-19 Protocols

I've blogged about the madness surrounding college hoops so far this year. Nova is just flat out refusing to leave Bubbleville in Connecticut. Seton Hall is scheduling games all over the place. A bubble popped up in Vegas out of nowhere. And now this. Stanford is currently playing in the Maui Invitational, which of course is in Asheville this year. But just like the 49ers, there's this protocol.

PFT - The 49ers now are banned from practicing and playing in Santa Clara, California, where they call home. Santa Clara County released new COVID-19 restrictions today that include a ban on all contact sports and a mandatory 14-day quarantine for anyone traveling into the region from more than 150 miles away. It creates an emergency for the 49ers, who fortunately play in Los Angeles against the Rams on Sunday.

I get that everyone is battling COVID restrictions in one way or another, but clearly Stanford is dealing a whole different thing with the ban on contact sports. The solution? Fuck if I know, but I love that Stanford is trying something out. They are already in North Carolina in a controlled environment. Just keep them in Asheville. There are a million teams in the state and right around there. Get them on a bus and start booking some games. The goal right now is to get to 25ish games for each team. This is how teams have to do it. You can't do true bubbles because of the whole amateurism thing. But you can do these mini half bubble things and try to get as many games as possible in these mostly controlled environments.

Plus I want to watch Stanford. They are legit. Ziaire Williams looks like a top-5 talent for next year's draft. They have the right blend of bringing back 4 starters to go with him. Daejon Davis is a senior lead guard. Oscar da Silva is a senior big guy that can stretch the floor a bit and protect the rim. We need to see them play more and more from a selfish fan standpoint.
