Wake Up With Peter Gabriel’s ‘Games Without Frontiers’

I try not to be that guy who gripes about how all music today sucks and they stopped writing good songs the day he turned 25 or whatever. Because that’s been going on since time immemorial. I’m sure Noah bitched to Shem, Ham and Japheth about the crap they were listening to on the ark and asked them to play some of the classics. I don’t want to be that guy.

But ...

Last night I was doing Zoom trivia with my usual team. There was a music category. I was all songs from 2017. Thankfully the women on our team stepped up because I and the other guy were utterly useless. And he’s younger than I am. We simply couldn’t tell Ed Sheeren from Niall Horan from Shawn Mendes. Because they are indistinguishable. Flat out indistinguishable. As fate would have it, after we were through I put on the 80s SiriusXM station and this song came on. An absolute banger that is as unique and compelling  today as it was when Peter Gabriel released it almost 40 years ago. So no, I don’t think all contemporary music blows. But there’s nothing that can compete with this. Convince me otherwise.
