Old Sportswriter Yells At Cloud About Pete Alonso Being "Part Of Sports' Growing Vulgarity Problem"

Forget the records. Throw out highlights. Keep all the drama that comes along with being the only major American team sport that has no game clock. Articles where a dinosaur sportswriter launches a comically dated take about one of the most beloved players in the game is going to be what I miss most about Major League Baseball as it slowly bleeds out over the next few decades.

I won't go into great detail of the article because it was clearly written to get clicks or have people pay whatever the hell a newspaper costs in 2020. But Phil Mushnick had a problem with Pete Alonso having the unmitigated GALL to add an F to LGM last year.

Oddly enough, there was no mention of Alonso starting a charity foundation, donating some of his Home Run Derby winnings to two charities, buying all of his teammates cleats in remembrance of 9/11 then donated his cleats and bats to the 9/11 museum, or creating a harmless rallying cry for a broken fanbase that would shake every time someone not named Seth Lugo was called to the bullpen. Most of the focus was Pete implying the word Fuck because kids that definitely say the word Fuck when their parents aren't around may hear it or something.

Mushnick also vilified Marshawn Lynch, CC Sabathia, and Rob Gronkowski for embracing naughty words. I'm gonna say if you have a problem with any/all of those guys who just so happen to be some of the most likable athletes of their generation, you are the problem.

TL;DR - Fuck Phil Mushnick
