Recommended: Paul McCartney - Hey Jude (Live At Hyde Park 2010)

Happy 78th Birthday to Sir Paul McCartney; arguably the most impactful songwriter of all time, and unquestionably one of my favorites!

There's a million different songs and performances I could've went with here ('Maybe I'm Amazed' from Wings Over America is probably my personal favorite), but this rendition of 'Hey Jude' really just puts the anthemic nature of the track on display, and it's just absolutely gorgeous on every level and shows McCartney as the fucking legend that he is.

For those who don't know the story behind 'Hey Jude' - it was written by Paul McCartney in 1968 in the midst of John Lennon's divorce from his wife Cynthia, for their son, Julian. It was actually originally titled, 'Hey Jules', as well, before the slight change.

When The Beatles recorded it, and its length went well over the norm - clocking in at seven minutes and eleven seconds long - producer George Martin expressed his frustrations with the long outro and told them radio stations may not play it.

John Lennon famously and simply responded, “They will if it’s us.”, and the rest is history.
