The Ford Bronco Will Return On July 9th, Which Just So Happens To Be OJ Simpson's Birthday

Detroit Free Press- Ford Motor Co. plans to reveal the all-new Ford Bronco on July 9, which falls on the birthday of Orenthal James "O.J." Simpson. Simpson, a former football star, is known internationally for being in a white Ford Bronco that aired on live TV leading a massive police chase on June 17, 1994, after being charged with murder in the slayings of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman.

"I gotta believe this is a mistake. Didn't anybody look at the calendar?" said John McElroy, veteran industry observer and Autoline.tv host. "Ford Motor Co. does not want to correlate the launch of such an iconic and important vehicle with a police chase with a notorious" person. "Everybody in the world knew that O.J. was fleeing in a white Ford Bronco." McElroy said, "I'll make a prediction. They'll change the date."

No, actually. The company confirmed on Monday the plan is a go. "We're going to reveal Bronco just like we said we would on July 9," Mike Levine, Ford North America product communications manager, told the Free Press. He said Simpson's birthdate is "purely coincidental."

I believe in a lot of things. Coincidence. Happenstance. Good old fashioned serendipity. I also believe in marketing and the desire to catch the public's eye with a new product as a pandemic puts the world's economy in a torture rack.

Which is why I am going to say the people at Ford aren't all that upset that that their car linked to the most famous homicide case in this country's history. I'm not saying Ford definitely meant to do it but I'm also not saying they definitely didn't mean to do it either. Ain't no shame in the auto slinging game. If you are the product manager for the Ford Bronco, the only thing you know more about than your car are OJ Simpson facts just to avoid any potential bad publicity.

Actually strike that last part from the record because this is probably one of those examples where there is no such thing as bad publicity. I had no fucking clue Ford was bringing back the Bronco until this tweet hit my timeline with all the requisite jokes despite it being in the making for years and would've been unveiled months ago already if not for the Rona ripping through the country. Now both you and I know that the Bronco will be shown to the public as OJ is playing his birthday round of golf without Ford worrying about any real blowback since OJ is now Twitter's most beloved alleged double murderer if not the most unluckiest fantasy player ever. Tell whatever Ford is in charge to fire up the assembly line because after all this hoopla, the Bronco's sales numbers are definitely going to.....be good.
