"“We’re certainly working on one [National Treasure] for streaming and we’re working on one for the big screen. Hopefully, they’ll both come together and we’ll bring you another National Treasure, but they’re both very active….The one for Disney+ is a much younger cast. It’s the same concept but a young cast. The one for theatrical would be the same cast.”
This is amazing news. We already knew that National Treasure 3 was in the works (where we hopefully find out what is on page 47) but a series opens up a ton of room for this franchise to run. Instead of having to condense an elaborate plotline into a movie runtime, you can really delve deep into historical lore across seasons of mystery and action. This also gives Nic Cage yet another opportunity to help pay off the Mongolian dinosaur bone warlords he owes money to (even though Bruckheimer said the series will have a younger cast). Between this and the upcoming Joe Exotic role he has been cast in, he should be rolling in it.
Did he unknowingly position himself for the Joe Exotic role here? Damn. Anyway, Everyone loves National Treasure, so hopefully they can find some good mystery/adventure writers and a good cast to turn this from a just a good idea into a flagship program for Disney+.
