NY Post – Matt Harvey wasn’t thrilled about the manner in which he was depicted in a recent profile in the magazine Men’s Journal. “It really sucks how words get used and completely taken out of context,” Harvey wrote on Twitter yesterday. The Mets ace was quoted as saying he admired Derek Jeter, because of the Yankees captain’s penchant for dating beautiful women and keeping it secret. “That guy is the model,” Harvey said in the magazine piece. “I mean, first off, let’s just look at the women he’s dated. Obviously, he goes out — he’s meeting these girls somewhere — but you never hear about it. That’s where I want to be.”

Matt, my man, I love you. I really do. We all know that. Not even in a platonic, love-you-like-a-brother sort of way. Like a flat out sexual crush.

But I don’t know if I can back you up on this one. I’m sure some of those quotes here and there in the article were misconstrued. I’m sure a few things here and there were taken out of context. But when you sit down for an interview and talk all about women, money and partying, what context did you expect for the article? You were in a club with Brian Boyle with a lip of chaw. Talking about best dressed lists and $200 million contracts and how to fuck chicks like Jeter. I get that what he’s saying is some of that stuff is misunderstood but you weren’t sitting there talking about WHIP and BABIP dude. Give up juicy details like that and any reporter is gonna profile you as the rock star athlete, not the consummate professional 1,000 times out of 1,000.

If Jeter is the model, articles like this and tweeting complaints about it afterwards ain’t the way to be like him. Which is fine – yesterday I said you don’t need to by that boring, corporate star that Jeter was. But if thats what you wanna be, might have to rethink your game plan. So far that ain’t Harvey.
