Don't Break Corona Curfew (Especially If You're A Ugandan Woman)

Oh boy. Every day it feels like people more and more are on edge. We're all watching the news for a SHRED of hope we can get some semblance of reality back, and the only way to do that is by social distancing and using the proper protection when you must go out.

But not everybody is following the rules.

And when we fail to do things right on our own volition, many times its the strong hand of a disciplinarian to get us back on track. Every day there's a new form of punishment.

In Philly, we're now seeing people get dragged off of public transit, for not wearing their mask. In Italy, people who break quarantine are getting charged with ATTEMPTED MURDER for God's sake.

Oof.

You know one way to NOT get dragged kicking and screaming of the afternoon train?

WEAR YOUR DAMN MASK.

A few days ago, ten police officers were charged for aggravated assault on a group of women who were in violation of the local coronavirus curfew.

What kind of assault you ask? They forced the women to rub mud on their vaginas.

Wait, what?

They. Forced. The. Women. To. Rub. Mud. On. Their. Vaginas.

HOLY SHIT.

Oof. Turns out the officers "forced the women to roll in the mud and rub mud on their genitals. Seven men were allegedly assaulted by security forces in the same incident, and one is in a military hospital with 'significant injuries'."

Apparently, this wasn't a one-off either. Human Rights Watch has accused Ugandan security patrols of using "excessive force, including beating, shooting and arbitrarily detaining people across the country" in enforcing social distancing and lockdown requirements.

Jesus.

Now, I'm a big fan of not dying from coronavirus, and not spreading the virus to those who will get sick and die themselves. I'm also decidedly NOT a big fan of police brutality. So I'm in a bit of a quandary here. But thankfully, there's an elegant solution that both stops the spread of the virus, AND avoids excessive authoritarian violence.

STAY IN YOUR FUCKING HOMES, AND IF YOU HAVE TO GO OUT, WEAR A DAMN MASK
