Ivan Nova Has A Torn UCL

Nova

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.The New York Yankees were blown out by the Tampa Bay Rays, 16-1, on Saturday night at Tropicana Field, but they potentially lost a lot more than just a game whenIvan Nova, their No. 3 starter, left in the fifth inning with soreness in his pitching elbow.

Well this turned out to be a torn UCL. The team is saying that he will go on the DL today and be examined further when Nova heads back to NY. While no one is saying Tommy John yet, this is where we are headed. So we have probably seen the last of Nova for 2014. Luckily, this is why we have extra starters and didn’t make a deal at the end of spring training.

At the end of the day this is a huge blow to what has been a great rotation so far but if someone had to go down from the rotation, this would have been my first pick. As inconsistent as CC has been and Kuroda can be at times, they are veterans who can step up and get the job done when needed. As for Tanaka and Pineda, I can’t have them get hurt. Hell I would even help those two dump a body if they needed it.
