Credit Where Credit Is Due, Nobody Has Ever Been In A Tougher Tanking Predicament Than The Miami Dolphins Last Night

NFL: OCT 28 Dolphins at Steelers

Lotta people enjoying some laughs at the expense of the Miami Dolphins right now. Go up 14-0 on the road in a prime time game, look like you have the chance to actually win a football game for the first time since week 14 of last season, only to send an all out blitz on 3rd & 20 with 20 seconds left in the first quarter where they got torched for a touchdown and proved to the entire world that they have quite literally zero intentions of winning any games this season. Lotta laughs have been had.

But let me tell you right now–it’s just not right. It’s easy for you and I to laugh from the outside looking in. But imagine if we had to walk a mile in the Miami Dolphins’ cleats that seem to have their shoelaces tied together? You’d quickly realize that it’s no joking matter. Because what we witness last night was quite possibly the biggest dilemma to ever arise in tanking history. The world had never seen a tanking predicament quite like this one before, so the Dolphins were in uncharted territory.

You see, the Dolphins own the Pittsburgh Steelers’ 1st round draft pick in 2020 which they received for Minkah Fitzpatrick. So a win last night would have gone a long way to making that Steelers a much higher pick. This is a Steelers team that isn’t very good but they still get to play the Browns twice, the Bengals once, the Cardinals once and the Jets once. There are still a few more wins left on the schedule for them. I mean it’s still going to be a pretty solid draft pick when its all said and done but taking away one of those “automatic” wins last night certainly would have gone a long way. And then all the Dolphins would have to do from there is lose the rest of their games for the season, which is just as easy said as done for this team.

They play against the Bengals on 12/22. There’s a chance that both of those teams are 0-15 at that point. So if the Dolphins were 1-14 and lost that game to Cincinnati? They’re right back at where they were in the first place. So unfortunately, I don’t even think it should have been that much of a predicament. This was the one game of the season that Miami actually should have tried to win. Unfortunately, this is what they went with instead.

But like I said, this is uncharted territory. This is the first time in tanking history where the correct tank move was actually to anti-tank. You can’t hate on the Dolphins for mishandling the situation, but now we all know better for next time. Still covered though.
