Is Anyone Actually Surprised That Jay-Z Used Tie Domi For Protection?

Tie Domi was on the The Corp podcast this week with Big Cat and ARod and if you haven’t listened yet, you’re missing out. During the podcast, ARod told a story about the time he threw a birthday party and Jay-Z used the all-time leader in NHL fights as his security.

Alex Rodriguez: We had a big A-Rod party, they called it. My 34th birthday in 2009, July 27th. Now, the entire team is over there. Front office, Jay-Z and Beyonce (namedrop), and then around midnight, now this is a Saturday when we have a 1 o’clock game the next day, someone jumps in the pool, then I jump in the pool, [Joe] Girardi jumps in the pool, the manager. Now I’m talking about 100 people inside the pool. Now, there’s two people dry in the entire party: one is Jay-Z, and the other is Tie Domi, who was protecting Jay-Z. ‘Hey, Tie, don’t let anybody get near you.’ He goes, ‘trust me, nobody will.’

Tie Domi: And guys would come around, they’d try to sneak up. Jay-Z would come over, put his arm around me with a cigar in his mouth.

Alex Rodriguez: Every time I see Jay-Z, he goes “How’s my boy Tie Domi?”

The only thing shocking about this is that people are actually shocked. Tie Domi is one of the toughest SOB’s on the planet. We are talking about a guy who is 5’8’’ and played in a day and age in the NHL when 5’8’’ guys didn’t usually even get a shot. Not only did he get a shot, he took full advantage, kicking the shit out of everyone who crossed his path and taking on guys twice his size.

I think one of the best things about hockey players is they always have the boys back, no matter what. If Tie told Jay-Z he was going to have his back, then god damnit it doesn’t matter if it’s the biggest pool party of the century, Domi is going to stay dry and by the Jigga man’s side.
