Man Dies at a Taco Eating Contest on, You Guessed it, Taco Tuesday

SourceA man has died after competing in a taco eating contest during a minor league baseball game in Fresno, California.

The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office says Dana Hutchings, 41 of Fresno died arriving at the hospital Tuesday night.

A spokesperson with the Fresno Grizzlies says … Tuesday night’s competition allowed amateurs to qualify for Saturday’s World Taco Eating Championship to be held by Major League Eating at Fresno’s annual Taco Truck Throwdown.

During the 2018 Taco Eating Championship in Fresno, professional eater Geoff Esper downed 73 tacos in eight minutes.

The Fresno County Coroner’s Office says it does not have a ruling on the cause of death, but says they have an idea of what may have led to his death.

What a senseless and horrible tragedy. Thoughts and prayers to everyone touched by this pointless and preventable loss of life.

I’m not sure exactly what the Fresno County Coroner’s Office is getting when they say they don’t know “the cause of death,” but they might know what “led to his death.” But I think I have an idea.

I’m not saying that Lebron’s reckless and self-serving promotion of Taco Tuesday led to this death. But I’m not not saying it, either. Binge eating these dangerously spicy, fat-laden, heart-stopping, cholesterol wallets is an enormous health hazard. Something that shouldn’t be entered into lightly. And for sure, glamorizing the idea in your own self interest without any regard for the safety of others is totally irresponsible.

Does that make this all Lebron’s fault? That’s not for you and me to decide. That’s between him and his conscience. But how many more must die before we finally have had enough and put an end to this?
