When you first watch that video your initial reaction is probably, “ah shit. Jimmy Buckets is out here hanging with movie stars. There’s not a chance in heck he’s not moving to LA the first chance he gets”. Which is a reasonable reaction to have….if you’re an absolute fucking moron.
Now myself, an intellectual? Well I can tell you that that’s not just any movie star. That’s Marky Mark Wahlberg. And who is Marky Mark Wahlberg most famous for portraying on the big screen? Well it’s not Bob Lee Swagger in Shooter. It’s not Sgt. Sean Dignam in The Departed. It’s not Detective Terry Hoitz in The Other Guys. It’s not John Bennett in Ted. Heck, it’s not even Dirk Diggler in Boogie Nights.
Mark Wahlberg is most famous for portraying Vince Papaple in a little flick called Invincible. That’s right. Mark Wahlberg is most famous for portraying a Philadelphia sports legend.
You think the guy who played Vince Papale in Invincible is going to tell Jimmy Buckets to sign in LA or New York? I mean actually think about that for a moment. Do you realize how asinine it would be to believe that? Or do you have a brain and realize that the dude who played Vince Papale probably told Jimmy Butler that there’s not a single sports town in this nation better to play in than the city of Philadelphia. Also–look at the sleeve patch on Marky Mark’s jersey right there. That’s the 76ers logo. It’s pretty obvious that Mark Wahlberg has campaigning for Jimmy Butler to stay in Philly since at least 2006.
So am I worried about Jimmy Butler being persuaded by the luxurious lifestyle that LA has to offer? Not in the slightest. And he’ll get to live a life of luxury here in Philadelphia once he gets that max contract.
