Out Of All The Terrible Bands In The World, You'd Think That Smash Mouth Would Know The Most About Getting Boo'd
Smash Mouth is a band that probably would have never existed if not for the fact that the movie Shrek needed a soundtrack. Plus the 90s/early 2000s were a really weird time in American history so a lot of mistakes were made during that time.
For the most part, I feel like the majority of people have forgotten about Smash Mouth and are only reminded of the band’s existence whenever they chime in on the current news in the MLB. I think the reason why Smash Mouth loves the MLB so much is because the fanbases pretty much overlap entirely. Just a bunch of old white dudes who love talking about their lawn and telling the waitress at restaurants that they hated the food after handing them back an empty plate. And considering the biggest news in the MLB yesterday is that Philly fans had the audacity to boo Bryce Harper after going just 4 for 33 in his last 10 games, Smash Mouth decided to chime in.
Now here’s the really disappointing part about that tweet–out of all the terrible, horrible bands throughout history, you would think that Smash Mouth would know a thing or two about getting boo’d by their own fans. You would think that they understand the fact that booing doesn’t come from people paying all of that money just to go watch a bunch of guys who they hate. Instead, people are spending that money to go watch people they love, but the people they love are playing like shit. So they want them to start playing better, and the easiest way to get that message across is via booing. There’s nobody out there buying tickets to a Smash Mouth concert ironically just so they can boo them. The same way that Phillies fans aren’t buying tickets to Citizens Bank Park ironically just so they can boo Bryce Harper. Somehow Smash Mouth never understood that, which would probably explain why they never got any better.
Just a really rough look for Giants fans everywhere. Last place in their division and you still don’t boo? Sure sounds to me like you just don’t care. But I’m sure Bryce is feeling just fine with the Phillies at the top fo the NL East. Wouldn’t take the sharpest tool in the shed to figure that one out.
