Current College Hoops Players Call The 3 Duke Guys The Most Overrated Players In The Country

Duke v Florida State

[The Athletic] - Who is the most overrated player in college basketball?

Top result: R.J. Barrett (21 percent)

Runners-up: Zion Williamson (6.4), Cam Reddish (4.6)

Also receiving multiple votes (in descending order): Jarrett Culver, Rui Hachimura, Ethan Happ, Romeo Langford, Remy Martin, PJ Washington

In their own words …

“I think R.J. Barrett. I think he shoots too much.”

“I’d say R.J. Barrett. He’s a ball-stopper. He don’t know how to, like, get his teammates involved.”

“Over-talked about is Zion, but he’s not overrated.”

So The Athletic ran a pretty interesting survey with 110 current college players. They don’t describe how they broke the players whether it’s a majority high major, low major or whatever. But, this is what I found intriguing.

Current college hoops players are a lot like fans. They hate Duke.

I mean that’s how it is with Duke. You are either a Duke fan or you hate Duke. There’s absolutely no in between with them. It’s impossible. That’s just a program and team you can’t feel indifferent about.

The most accurate statement though is the last one. Obviously Zion is the most over talked about one. There’s a reason he is. He draws in pageviews and eyes plus he’s really damn good. He’s not overrated at all. Numbers say otherwise.

Now, RJ is an interesting case study. He is a good player. He turned into a decent playmaker. But, there are times he gets blinders on. Obviously the end of the Michigan State game is one that everyone will remember.

I need whoever voted these guys to show their faces though. I want them to come out and admit who they were and who voted these guys as most overrated. I’d love to see Zion’s reaction at someone calling him overrated.
