Figured it would be a good idea to rewind allllll the way back to the beginning of the Griffey book for this Ken Griffey Monday. We got a very young Griff in those awesome Mariners jerseys, something they need to bring back. He's at the plate for his very first at-bat in his career, probably pretty nervous, should be lucky enough to just hold onto the bat and not let it fly into the stands.
Love how the announcer is already saying "you're going to want to remember where you were in 20-25 years" when talking about the Kid's first at-bat, and of course he delivers. Griffey laces a double that hits off the bottom of the wall, just a few feet from carrying out. Only fitting that his first at-bat is a ball that he pissed on, something that he would go on to do a lot of in his career.
He was hustling out of the box and there was no way Griffey was letting anything stop him from getting a double, he showed off that speed and was at second almost before the cutoff man had the ball. Gotta love the rookie hauling ass to make a good first impression.
Shout out to that shortstop for saving that ball too.
