Introducing The Most New Yorker Group Of New Yorkers In The History Of New York

I’m here at the Barclays Center for the debut of UFC on ESPN – a really fantastic card headlined by a Champion vs Champion SuperFight between Henry Cejudo and TJ Dillashaw – and as soon as I walked from the media center out to the arena, I looked up at the big screen and saw the most hilarious New Yorker group of New Yorkers to ever grace New York. Chris Weidman, Gian Villante, Al Iaquinta, Aljamain Sterling, and a friend of theirs are REPRESENTING Long Island here in Brooklyn, and in full force.

Flexin’, mean muggin’, and resisting what I’m sure was an incredible urge to rip their shirts off during their moment of screen time is pretty much the epitome of all of those guys’ personalities, and as a New Jersey/New York guy myself, I wouldn’t have it any other way. Maybe the most likable camp in all of MMA. Only thing missing was maybe Matt Serra scooting by them with a couple beers in his hands screaming “EEYY CALM DOWN I’M WALKIN’ HEYRE!” at the dudes like they were his kids.

Oh, and the crowds at these Brooklyn/Manhattan cards are just the perfect example of why MMA shoulda been legal here a LOOOOONG time before it was. They’re electric, and even pretty educated. During that Alonzo Menifield/Vinicius Moreira fight (a pretty good, quick one – same goes for Cory Sandhagen/Mario Bautista), Moreira grabbed the cage, and the ENTIRE section behind me just yelled “FENCE GRABBAAA! REFF!! HE’S GRABBIN’ THE FENCE!!! C’MON!!!” in the thickest accents I’ve ever heard. It was beautiful.
