Movie Trailer Roundup - Is 'Polar' Just Cold John Wick?

ThumbnailImage1. Captain Marvel (Trailer #3)

Being honest, this is the best trailer of the three. It’s way more in sync for Marvel’s image and makes it seem like it takes itself less seriously. It stars Brie Larson (Room), Samuel L. Jackson (Star Wars: Attack of the Clones), Ben Mendelsohn (Bloodline), Gemma Chan (Crazy Rich Asians) and Jude Law (Repo Men). It’s written and directed by Anna Boden (Half Nelson) and Ryan Fleck (A Kind of Funny Story).

2. Polar

Cold John Wick? Cold John Wick. This stars Mads Mikkelsen (Hideo Kojima), Katheryn Winnick (Vikings), Vanessa Hudgens (The Princess Switch) and Johnny Knoxville (The Ringer (Imagine that movie got made today?)) and directed by Jonas Åkerlund (Lords of Chaos).

3. Don’t Come Back From The Moon

I have nothing to say about this movie other than the title reminds me of one of my favorite tweets of all time.\

4. Io

This looks awesome both from a production standpoint, and from a casting standpoint. I looooove Anthony Mackie (Avengers: Infinity War(CUT THE CHECK!!!)) and liked Margaret Qualley in ‘The Nice Guys’. Plus, it’s Netflix so it’s basically a free movie. Jonathan Helpert (House of Time) is directing off a script by committee.

5. Hotel Mumbai

This looks like a great retelling of the terrifying 2008 Mumbai attacks, one of the deadliest terrorist attacks in modern history. This has a great cast, but I’m not too familiar with the crew which definitely has me hesitant. I would have bet the bank on this being a Paul Greengrass joint, but it’s actually directed by Anthony Maras (The Palace) and written by him and John Collee (Master and Commander). Dev Patel (Slumdog Millionaire) stars alongside Nazanin Boniadi (How I Met Your Mother), Armie Hammer (Call Me By Your Name), Jason Isaacs (The Patriot) and Anupam Kher (The Silver Linings Playbook).

6. The Bouncer

I actually blogged about this movie back in May when it was titled ‘Lukas’, but nothing much has changed so I’ll just do a copy/paste: This isn’t a huge release or anything obviously, but I think this trailer was pretty bad-ass. Also, anyone who has hesitations about a French action-thriller movie, can I please direct your attention to a 2008 movie of the same make called “Taken”.

7. Velvet Buzzsaw

Sign me alllll the way up for a Jake G horror movie! This has an all star cast in Jake Gylenhall (Jarhead), John Malkovich (Mile 22), Billy Magnussen (The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt), Toni Colette (Hereditary), Daveed Diggs (Blindspotting) and Renee Russo (Lethal Weapon 4). It’s written and directed by Dan Gilroy (Nightcrawler).

8. Fyre

Does anyone really know what happened at Fyre Festival? It had an absolute stranglehold on social media for a solid 72 hours, though, which has me interested enough to take a look.
