Clemson Was One Decision Away From Dominating The Entire College Sports Calendar

Think about this for a second. Clemson was a close second in the race for Zion and we’ve seen how good he has been this year. Imagine Clemson coming off of that dominating game against Alabama now with the Zion hype train rolling through with college hoops season? There would be no other thing like it.

I can’t remember one college that won a national title as one of the two best teams in the country the entire season and then would have a guy like Zion to carry them through March. Last year we saw a bit of it with Baker Mayfield and Trae Young but Oklahoma didn’t win the national title. Florida had it a little bit in 2006 when they won both the football and basketball titles, but that was the first run for Billy Donovan and Joakim Noah wasn’t really a true character on the national scale yet.

Now, I disagree a bit with Doug here. They wouldn’t be the full on title favorites in college basketball with the addition of Zion. They’d be a top-10 team most likely but the likes of Gonzaga, Virginia, Tennessee, Michigan and Duke would still be favored ahead of them.

What is he right about though is Clemson thinking they had Zion. A majority of people thought Zion was going to stay home and go to Clemson during his recruiting process. He grew up just an hour away from Clemson’s campus and it wasn’t just a pity I’ll visit and list them in my top-5. Clemson was a very close second.

Now, is this a way to knock Clemson basketball fans who are also football fans down a notch? It just means more.
