Jered Weaver Tells Hilarious Story Behind Lighting Up Kyle Seager With An 83 MPH Fastball

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim v Seattle Mariners

I was already a Jered Weaver fan before his interview that he did with us on Starting 9 (subscribe here), but this just cemented it for me. Not that I have anything against Kyle Seager, but it’s hard not to take Weaver’s side on this one. Back in 2015, when Weaver had gone from an average fastball velocity of 90.99 MPH in 2010 to 84.30 MPH by 2015, the right-hander was never one to take any shit regardless of what he was chucking up to the plate.

Seager was taking forever to get in the box, acting like he was Derek Jeter, as Weaver put it, and the three-time All Star was tired of waiting around. It wasn’t so much as he was asking for time, but the manner in which he was doing it and the fact that he was doing it for a second time after Weaver had already visibly demonstrated his frustration with Seager for taking so long to get ready for the next pitch. When you have a 10-year vet, at the time, on the mound and a four-year, somewhat unproven player in the box who’s dicking around, that exchange hardly ever ends in a civil manner.

Knowing that he only had 83 in the tank, that didn’t stop Weaver from sending a message to the 27-year-old, so he drilled him with ALL of that 83 MPH which got him a one-way ticket to the showers. Weaver even went as far as to saying that he wished Seager would’ve came out to fight him. In today’s era of baseball with new school versus old school, you have to admit that there is still a place for the old school, hard nose way that the game is played. If you can’t respect that move, then you should check out lacrosse.
