UFC Strawweight Cynthia Calvillo Attempting And Failing To Make Weight This Morning Makes For A Very Disturbing Video

So, that’s a video of UFC Strawweight Cynthia Calvillo attempting to make weight this morning and not even really getting very close.

Technically, there’s a 1lb allowance in all divisions for non-title fights, where you’re allowed to weigh-in at 116lbs for a Strawweight fight, 126lbs for a Flyweight fight, 136lbs for a Bantamweight fight, so on and so forth – making Calvillo off by 2lbs here, which I know doesn’t sound like a ton, but that is a lot when talking about missed weight. She comes in at 118lbs, and she does NOT do it healthily, as you can see from the disturbing clip above.

It looked to be the roughest weight cut we’ve seen a mixed martial artist have in quite some time, where Cynthia was so depleted she could barely stand up and keep her eyes open…but of course, she’s still been cleared to fight tomorrow!

As I’ve written a thousand times over now, weight-cutting is a dreadful practice that hurts all fighters both short-term and long, and provides legitimately zero benefit to the sport. It can be abolished entirely. ONE Championships have done this already by implementing hydration testing. The UFC will not do this, though – at least not any time soon – because ultimately, stripping all of their champions of their titles and having everyone fight at the weight they walk around at isn’t worth the headache to them.

Nothing will change before the first weight-cut death in the UFC, which will happen. Mark my words.
