Make The World Series Logos Cool Again
Last night, I was depressed as I watched the World Series knowing that the Red Sox will mash their way to another championship. So instead of actually focusing on the game, I decided to misdirect my anger at the World Series logo.
Now take those and compare them to this year’s.
I mean look how boring that is. Just an astounding lack of effort put into it. It’s pretty much just the words “World Series.” I longed for the days of more creative logos. In the early 2000s, I used to look forward to its unveiling every year. I would even draw my own for some reason.
That made me look into the history of World Series logos.
1974-1979
The 1976 one is actually pretty cool. Pretty sure it’s supposed to look like The Liberty Bell to celebrate 200 years of America. Not positive, but I just thought of that so I’m running with it. I do no like referring to the World Series as “The 75th World Series” and “The 76th World Series.” Maybe the 75th because it’s a milestone. Celebrating the 76th World Series makes no sense.
1980-1997
Severe lack of creativity. Just changed it up every ~5 years and kept it for the next ~5 years. 1993-1997 was just changing up the colors slightly and passing it off as new.
1998-2002
Making progress, getting better every year.
2003-2007
These were the glory years. Just fire flames logo after fire flames logo.
The gold is an excellent touch. Went all out for the 100th anniversary and didn’t disappoint. I have a Yankee jersey with this logo on the side. It has the #33 and Scibelli on the back. I wore it to my 8th birthday party at an indoor baseball clinic. I cried at it because I couldn’t get any hits.
I do not care for the result of this season, but something about that blue globe just makes it move.
This could be my favorite of all time. The globe, the seams, the colors. Masterpiece.
I see this and I just picture David Eckstein busting it down the first base line.
Another masterpiece. Love what they did with the globe here.
2008-2009
Went from the globe to the diamond and it’s been downhill ever since. The 2009 logo will always hold a special place in my heart though.
2010-Present Day
The dark days. Some people like 2011 because of the leaves. That doesn’t do it for me. 2015 is probably my favorite from this bunch. 2014 and 2016 are disgustingly uncreative.
Overall, my conclusion of the study is that I guess I just like the years where there’s a globe. I’m a sucker for a good globe. Let’s start putting a little more effort back into these logos, baseball.
End of blog. Also FOX, please bring back this music.
