DJ LeMahieu Launches A Walk-Off Homer, As The First Place Rockies Aim To Take Three Of Four From The Dbacks

Arizona Diamondbacks v Colorado Rockies

I could smell it in the air with this team. On August 9, the Colorado Rockies were in third place, three and a half back of the Dbacks and Dodgers who were tied for first place in the NL West. The next night, they defeated the Dodgers and have gone on to win 20 of their last 30 games, a half-game behind the St. Louis Cardinals for the best record in the National League over that span.

After losing two of three to the Dodgers over the weekend, the Rockies split the first two of a four-game series against the Dbacks to start the week. On Wednesday night, it was looking like Colorado was going to lose two of their first three to Arizona, trailing 4-3 going into the bottom of the ninth. That was until DJ LeMahieu had something to say about it. With Gerardo Parra standing on second base after a base hit and a sac bunt, LeMahieu launched an opposite field walk-off bomb to stun the Dbacks and put the Rockies right back in the win column.

The walk-off bomb gives Colorado some more breathing room between them and Arizona, a three and a half game cushion, but the Dodgers are still breathing down their neck, a game and a half back, after destroying the Reds last night. This division is going to come down to the wire, not just because of how tight these three teams are together right now, but more so because they essentially play out the rest of the string against each other.

After the series finale between these two teams on Thursday, the Rockies still have a three-game series against the Dbacks and a three-game series against the Dodgers, both of which are on the road. Should get interesting.
