(Esquire) “Hardy prepped for the movie for more than a year. He undergoes a rigorous process to shape each performance, complete with its own argot. A script is a “case file,” to be “unpacked” via “investigation.” He often begins by using personalities, both real and fictive, as lodestars toward which he guides his portrayal. The voice he developed for Al Capone in Fonzo is based on Bugs Bunny’s; to prove it, he plays me a clip of the raw footage on his phone. Sure enough, he sounds like the cartoon rabbit with a severe case of vocal fry.

I want to put a disclaimer on this whole whole thing by saying I love Tom Hardy. He’s one of the best actors around and is an incredible performer. That said, why does he hate taking roles where he gets to use his regular British accent so much?! I understand that he wants to get out of his comfort zone, but some of his best roles ever are when he uses his god given limey vocals.

Take more British roles, Tom! You don’t need to study Bugs Bunny to play Al Capone, especially since both De Niro and Stephen Graham already have the best 2 performances of the mobster. By the way, did you know the latter is playing a Jamaican drug lord in Idris Elba’s new movie? Wild. Anyway, Tom doesn’t have to do bad Brooklyn accents like he has in the ‘Venom’ trailer or wear some sort of facial appendage. He’s a beautiful man with a wonderful accent that we deserve to hear more of.
