NBA Draft Rumor: Is There A Team Trying To Trade Into The Top-10 To Draft Trae Young?

We’re a week and a half from the NBA Draft, which means it’s time for rumors and leaks to be flying. Teams trying to trade up/back, teams focusing on this player, this player falling due to concerns. It’s the best time, especially if you’re someone who really enjoys the Draft as I do.

So the one leaking right now, and I don’t necessarily want to call it a leak because Wass is one of the best out there in terms of getting info about the draft out there, is the Suns are looking to trade back into the top 10 using their No. 16 pick and Marquese Chriss. The plan is to trade those two and perhaps something else in order to get back into the top-10 and draft Trae Young.

I love this idea. The core of Trae/Booker/Warren/Jackson/Ayton and Bender coming off the bench? Yeah, that’s something that would make me very interested in watching and the Suns automatically a top League Pass team. Young and Booker would be one of the best shooting backcourts. Warren is a wildly underrated player. Jackson had a strong second half of his rookie year and I think Ayton is the best prospect in this class.

Even if the Suns can’t move up above the Magic to really feel comfortable about getting Trae, Wasserman throws out this idea:

Again, assuming they are taking Ayton at No. 1, I love this idea. You can possibly trade up with someone like the Cavs or Bulls at 7/8 or even the Sixers at 10 and get someone like Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. The gap between him and Trae/Sexton really isn’t large at all and I think the 3 are in the same tier, so you get a longer point guard who is a strong defender to play next to Booker and the ability to switch everything 1-through-4.

This Draft is going to be all sorts of fun as you have teams like the Suns and Hawks with a bunch of picks that could package stuff together and jump into the lottery for two picks. You have a team like the Cavs in the top-10. You have a pretty wide open top-10 in terms of how the order goes.
