The Golden State Warriors Are The 2017-18 NBA Champions

2018 NBA Finals - Game Four

Congratulations to the Golden State Warriors on winning the 2017-18 NBA title! They shocked the world and did the unthinkable, winning their 3rd title in the last 4 years. People will call them a dynasty, the best assembly of talent ever, and a group that has completely ruined the NBA. Just so you know, their GM doesn’t give a fuck if you think this new age modern collection of basketball death is unfair. As much as you may hate the Warriors, you can respect that attitude

I can totally understand how people will want to discredit this title just like the last one, saying how it’s simply not fair given the collection of talent the Warriors have. I say try and enjoy the level of dominance we’ve seen from this franchise since the 2014-15 seasons. You can put this run up against any in NBA history and I think it matches up. During the Spurs run of 3 in 5 years they had 297 wins, to GS’s 267 in 4 years. They didn’t have nearly as close as good an offense, but did separate themselves defensively. The Lakers during their 3 on 4 run had just 231 wins and were never quite this dominant. Then you go back to Jordan’s Bulls, and while it was a different era they had just 240/250 in each of their similar runs. We simply haven’t seen this type of sustained success before. As someone who just loves the NBA, I find that pretty cool that we live in the era in which this run has happened. With this season being the lowest regular season win total of the entire run, this team had a different feel in my opinion. The regular season couldn’t have meant less to them. Not once did they ever sweat not having homecourt against the Rockets. Instead they were their usual ridiculous offensive self (1st in Ortg) while also playing top 10 defense (9th in Drtg). They showed us right from the start of the preseason what they were capable of

and that certainly carried over to the regular season

When you are trying to make your fourth straight Finals, I would imagine you have to approach things in an entirely different way. The Warriors have played a lottttttttttt of basketball over the last 4 years. They had this quiet undertone of doom throughout the entire season, that once things got to the playoffs then we’d really see this team open it up. Well, now that the playoffs are over, we see that the Warriors went 16-5. Not quite the 4-4-4-5 of last year, but still pretty dominant. They lost 2 games in 3 series, and just like we expected they were pretty devastating when they actually tried

Once they got to the Finals and JR did JR things, this series was effectively over. We all knew it, and in the end the Cavs simply didn’t have enough firepower. This is now the last time we’ll probably see the Cavs in the Finals for quite some time, and hey at least they got their one ring. At the end of the day I bet every Cavs fan out there would take that. Sure Lebron is going to leave them again, but this time you can’t blame him. He’s not going to waste his remaining years with this hot trash. It is fitting that in his first Cavs Finals appearance he was met with a sweep, and now history has repeated itself in what will be his last.

But this is about the Warriors. Who always knew they were destined to end up in this position, once again crowned the best team in basketball. With Durant coming out saying he plans on staying in GS this is only the beginning. Somehow, some way there has to be a team out there that can give this team a run. I believe that team is out there. Just because we all knew the Warriors were going to win the title, and then they proved us all right, doesn’t mean this was a boring NBA season. In fact this was one of the best seasons I can remember. I’m sure GS will be the odds on favorite next October to go for the three peat, and if history has told us anything it’s going to take a heroic effort from someone to prevent it.

So Warriors fans, go nuts. Talk that shit on Twitter. You’re the kings of the basketball world until further notice.
