So It's Probably A Bad Day To Be Receiving A Call From Lightning Lou Lamoriello

So this really shouldn’t come as much of a surprise to anybody. It was announced on May 22nd that the Islanders would be bringing in Lou Lamoriello as the “President of Hockey Operations”. If anything, it’s surprising that it took this long for the Isles to kick Garth Snow to the curb after making that announcement. I mean you don’t bring in a guy who won 3 Stanley Cups, a World Cup and an Olympic Gold as a general manager of the Devils and USA Hockey just to have him stuck behind some guy who has only been able to get one playoff series win in the John Tavares era so far. The writing was on the wall for Garth Snow and I’m surprised his key card to get into the building didn’t stop working the moment that the Lamoriello hire was announced.

But anyway, yeah, it’s definitely not going to be a great day to be on the receiving end of a call from Lou Lamoriello. That organization seems to be moving in the direction necessary to keep the face of their franchise. A new general manager. A new coach eventually. A new home arena on the way. The key word with everything there being “new”. Sweet Lou is taking over that organization like he’s a Somalian Pirate and everybody’s butts should be feeling spicy today because they’re on their job is on the hot seat.

And like I’ve mentioned in a previous blog before–good on the Islanders for continuing to make these good decisions now instead of making ones that are bad. But I still hate them because this is almost guaranteeing the fact that we will all be robbed of the circus that would have been the John Tavares free agency this summer. I highly doubt Lou Lamoriello would come in an fire the general manager and head coach right away if he didn’t at least run it by the most important person in that organization first. So again, good for the Islanders but bad for bloggers who were hoping to have some content to write about on July 1.
