Breaking Down Advanced Stats With Jake Arrieta Is My New Favorite Thing To Do (Of All Time)
It’s a huge day for Starting 9 because it’s our first remote show just the two of us focusing on a good balanced baseball conversation. No guest. No major announcement. No theatrics. Just two baseball guys chopping it up and making a podcast. This episode features some new segments as well as weekly awards and a bunch of personal shit in between.
This weeks also a big deal because Jake takes his first major swing at breaking down advanced stats. He actually wants to know how to calculate WAR and wRC and that shit. Like not just how the stats work but the underlying formula that the experts created. I tried to explain that’s unnecessary but a true professional doesn’t just take stuff at face value. A true pro digs and that’s what Jake wants to do on the metrics. The commitment to self study is no joking matter on this podcast. In a year I wouldn’t be surprised if he was at the MIT seminar taking notes. Another two and he’ll be a keynote on some statistic you haven’t heard if yet because we’re still inventing it. That’s the kind commitment we’re bringing to the table and by We, I mean Jake.
