I broke the cardinal rule. I don’t know how this still happens after 35 years, but I let myself experience a little something called “confidence” this week. I ignored everything my body was telling me. I ignored all 97 signs that this was a trap game. I went ahead and told myself this year will be different. I thought that a healthy Sam Darnold was going to be DIFFERENT. But guess what, folks? There’s a reason why the phrase “Same Old Jets” exists. I thought Sam Darnold would handle an 0-11 team. I was wrong. I thought the defense would have a walk in the park against Andy fucking Dalton and the winless Bengals. I was wrong. Never again. Whenever anybody, EVER, tells you to have confidence in the New York Jets playing football, call them an IDIOT and point to this game.
