Muggsy Bogues Explains What It Was Like To Get His Basketball Talents Stolen During 'Space Jam'
On today's Pardon My Take... MUGGSY BOGUES! The former NBA first round draft pick joined Mr. Cat and Mr. Commenter on today's show to discuss being a "short king," Michael Jordan, trash talk, and much more. You may know Bogues from his professional basketball career, but it's also worth noting his performance in the Space Jam movie with MJ. What was it like to be a part of that production?
Mr. Commenter: I was wondering if you know what your stat line was in Space Jam against the Monstars?
Muggsy Bogues: No, what was it?
Mr. Commenter: I don't know, either. I was hoping that you would keep track of that. I feel like that's something that should be available, but I couldn't find it anywhere online.
Muggsy Bogues: No, I mean, I know we were smashing them quite a bit, I don't know, until we lost our powers. So, you know, when we add that power to that Monstar, he was amazing.
Mr. Commenter: What was that like when you were playing against the Monstars when you were filming it? Because I think that's the first movie to ever combine animation and basketball. They probably were figuring a little bit of it out as they went along. How did they tell you how to attack a defense of Monstars that weren't necessarily right in front of you? Or maybe they were there? I don't know, maybe it was a real thing.
Muggsy Bogues: That's too many tricks, I can't get those secrets out like that. That's the behind the scenes type of thing that goes on, and you know, Warner Brothers, they do an amazing job of having that type of a competition and how they're able to go against one another without even getting hurt. So, I mean, that was amazing. But no, I mean, it's all computer, you know, it was all computerized. So, you know, they know how to animation with the computer, so they put it all together. So, it wasn't nothing difficult. We didn't have to go against the Looney Tunes, per se.
I did some research to follow up on Mr. Commenter's question regarding the box score from that instant classic between the Looney Tunes and the Monstars. Here is what we've got:
These numbers are a fantasy basketball player's dream. That would be with the exception of Muggsy Bogues' character, "Nawt," who went scoreless, but picked up six assists and four steals. My favorite part about this is that there was just ONE missed shot the entirety of the game! On top of that, zero rebounds were hauled in overall.
What a game. What a movie.
