I Have A Question, What The Fuck Is Depaul Doing With Their Basketball Program?

(Source) DePaul has reached a deal in principle to rehire Dave Leitao as its men’s basketball coach, a source confirmed to CBSSports.com on Sunday. A formal announcement could come in the next 24 hours.

ESPN.com reported earlier Sunday that a deal would be reached “barring a hiccup.” That deal was reached Sunday afternoon. Leitao, 54, coached DePaul from 2002 to 2005 and took the Blue Demons to one NCAA Tournament in three seasons. He then left for Virginia, where he went 63-60 in four years with one NCAA Tournament appearance in between nothing but losing ACC records. Leitao’s ACC record was 27-37. He finished better than seventh in the league standings only once.

No seriously, what the fuck are they doing? This has to be the worst hire of all time right? To go from names like Bobby Hurley, Bryce Drew and Tom Crean  to Dave Leiato, a guy who has already had a shot at Depaul? What the fuck??? I honestly feel bad for Depaul Stoolies at this point. Depaul doesn’t have to be bad. There is so much talent in this state and The Big East is not the Big East anymore, a school like Depaul can now win in conference play and then they go and do this? A retread? It’s absolutely baffling. Even if you can’t land a brand name you should be going for a young guy who can recruit and add life to the program. Instead they got a guy who hasn’t been a Head Coach in 6 years, had a mediocre run at Depaul, flamed out at Virginia. That’s some sorry ass shit. I almost didn’t want to blog it because it’s that embarrassing for Depaul. Basically hire anyone but Dave Leaito AGAIN and you can spin it as a positive.
